Help us understand how you use OpenTelemetry's ecosystem lists

Do you use OpenTelemetry’s registry or ecosystem lists? Comment on the issue and tell us which pages you need and why.

We are reviewing the future of these pages. Understanding how people use them will help us focus our efforts within the maintainer time available.

Which pages are affected?

We have frozen new entries and updates to the following lists while we consider retiring or changing them:

  • Registry: libraries, Collector components, and other tools for using and extending OpenTelemetry.
  • Vendors: organizations offering solutions that consume OpenTelemetry.
  • Distributions: third-party distributions of OpenTelemetry components.
  • Integrations: software with OpenTelemetry support.
  • Adopters: organizations using OpenTelemetry.

The issue describes the current direction for each list, including retiring the registry in favor of the OpenTelemetry Ecosystem Explorer. The future of the other lists is still being discussed.

Why we need your input

Maintaining these lists takes time: reviewing submissions, keeping entries current, and supporting the necessary infrastructure. The website maintainer team has limited bandwidth, including for validating the projects being listed. We need to understand the value these pages provide to the people using them so we can make informed decisions about where to spend that time.

Tell us about your use

A few sentences about your experience are enough. Try answering these questions:

  • Which page do you use? Name the list, or explain which data you consume.
  • What does it help you do? Share a concrete example, such as finding an instrumentation library or evaluating adoption for your organization.
  • How often do you use it? Daily, monthly, or once during a project? A one-time visit can still be valuable if it helped you make an important decision.
  • What would you lose if it went away? Would it block your work, take more time, or have little effect? Could another resource meet the same need?

If you tried a page and it did not meet your needs, tell us what was missing. If you represent a listed project or organization, please also explain whether you use the page yourself and how it helps you.

We appreciate suggestions for alternative approaches. Please connect them to the user need they would address and explain who could maintain and operate them over time. Our constraint is the bandwidth to run these approaches, so understanding actual use is especially valuable right now.
